Greetings Students,

The Genomic Education team at The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) would like to highlight a Virtual Cancer Genomics Program for Undergraduates<https://www.jax.org/education-and-learning/high-school-students-and-undergraduates/undergraduate-cancer-genomics?utm_source=outlook&utm_medium=email&utm_content=faculty>, which we will offer again this summer.

This is a great opportunity for students to engage with JAX and dive deeper into biomedicine. This free course runs from July 13 – 24 in a fully virtual format and offers two levels of engagement to accommodate student schedules. Students will explore cancer genomics and its role in both basic cancer research and clinical care, and will meet researchers and clinicians working in the field. I’ve included more details below.

Please broadly share this opportunity with undergraduate students!

Do you have summer plans? Enhance your resume and level up your research skills with Virtual Cancer Genomics Programs<https://www.jax.org/education-and-learning/high-school-students-and-undergraduates/undergraduate-cancer-genomics?utm_source=outlook&utm_medium=email&utm_content=faculty> offered by The Jackson Laboratory (JAX)!

Dates: July 13 – 24, 2026
Cost: Free

Program Highlights

  * Learn how to interpret cancer genomics data
  * Meet cancer researchers and other cancer genomics professionals
  * Interact with peers through virtual course discussion boards
  * Complete an inquiry project guided by JAX experts to navigate online genomics databases, determine variant clinical significance, and design a personalized treatment for a fictional cancer patient

Two Opportunities

  * The Summer Institute<https://www.jax.org/education-and-learning/high-school-students-and-undergraduates/undergraduate-cancer-genomics/institute?utm_source=outlook&utm_medium=email&utm_content=faculty> is an application-based program that requires live attendance and the completion of an inquiry project. It will take about 15–20 hours over the two-week period. Participants who successfully complete the Institute will receive a JAX Digital Badge issued through Credly.
  * The Short Course<https://www.jax.org/education-and-learning/high-school-students-and-undergraduates/undergraduate-cancer-genomics/short-course?utm_source=outlook&utm_medium=email&utm_content=faculty> offers learners greater flexibility to choose their level of engagement. In addition to attending live sessions, there is an option to engage more deeply with the content and interact more closely with JAX staff and peers through asynchronous activities and discussion boards. It will take about 6–10 hours over the two-week period. Participants who successfully complete all required elements of the Short Course will receive a Certificate of Completion.

These programs are open to undergraduate students enrolled at a US-based two- or four-year college or university who have completed at least one year of study.
