Dear FEWS Lab Members,
I will be presenting and discussing the paper titled “Recent weakening of carbon-water coupling in northern ecosystems<https://www.nature.com/articles/s41612-025-01059-z>” in today’s lab meeting at 3:30 PM. The paper is attached for your reference.
This study reports a decline in the strength of carbon water coupling, commonly characterized by the relationship between gross primary production (GPP) and evapotranspiration (ET), across northern ecosystems over the past two decades. The authors attribute this weakening mainly to rising atmospheric CO2, while climate factors such as temperature, radiation, and precipitation play secondary roles, with important implications for ecosystem functioning and land-atmosphere feedbacks.
