[Sshagradstudents] Announcement: Events on the National Day on Writing (October 20, 2021)

This announcement has been sent on behalf of the Merritt Writing Program:

To celebrate the National Council of Teachers of English's annual National Day on Writing 2021, the Merritt Writing Program's Creative Writing and Professional Writing Committees are hosting a day of events on Zoom (Register at https://bit.ly/3m4StQt) on October 20, 2021.

These events are intended to help undergraduates get published and to share student and faculty work.

Please share this event with your colleagues and students and encourage them to take part!

Participants are welcome to attend any and all events on the schedule, dropping in for an hour or staying for the entire day!


UNDERGRADUATE PUBLISHING SEMINAR

12:00 to 12:15 Welcome! Tune in to the keynote address, "The History of the Vernal Pool Undergraduate Journal," with Paul Gibbons and Callie Kitchen, followed by a Q & A.

1:00 to 2:00pm: What Does It Mean to Be Published? Join our publishing roundtable with UC Merced Authors Justin Gautreau, Elizabeth McMunn Tetangco, Paula Treick DeBoard, Leigh Bernacchi, and Jocelyn Lemus.

2:00 to 3:00pm: Get Published! Demystify the Submission and Publishing Processes with Christa Fraser.

CREATIVE WRITING WRITE-IN AND WORKS-INPROGRESS READINGS

3:00 to 4:00pm: Write with us! Join the Write-In, open to all genres! Receive writing prompts and on-the-spot feedback with hosts Paula DeBoard & Yia Lee.

4:00 to 5:00pm: Share your writing at our Works-in-Progress Reading! UC Merced faculty and students will read excerpts from new work at a Zoom Open Mic, with an introduction/invocation by Paula Treick DeBoard and readings by Paula Treick DeBoard, Sam Ocena, Brigitte Bowers, and others.
