Subject: Upcoming Academic Job Market Workshops/Events - Join Us!
Dear Graduate Students,

It is our pleasure to invite you to participate in a series of professional development activities this Fall, that are designed to help you prepare for careers in academia. Please see below for more details:

  1. GENERAL OVERVIEW WORKSHOP: On Thursday, October 7, 2021 from 9am-11am, there will be a workshop titled "General Overview of Applying to Academic Jobs" that will take place virtually. This event will be led by Interim Associate Graduate Dean Asmeret Asefaw Berhe and is open to all graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. There is no need to register ahead of time. Zoom participation link: https://ucmerced.zoom.us/j/84523941949

  1. JOB APPLICATION MATERIALS FEEDBACK SESSION: For any graduate students or postdoctoral scholars that are currently applying to academic jobs and wanting feedback on their application materials, we will be holding a feedback session on Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 9am-11am. These materials may include the research statement, teaching statement, diversity statement and CV. Participants will be paired with a faculty in their discipline for a 20-minute, one-on-one consultation (may be in-person or remote). To register for participation and receive feedback, please complete the webform: https://graduatedivision.ucmerced.edu/form/academic-job-materials-feedback-session. Participation for this event will prioritized for UC Merced graduate students and postdoctoral scholars who are applying this Fall. We will reach out to registered participants with more information and to collect statement drafts of the job application materials shortly before the feedback session.

  1. COMMUNITY COLLEGE CAREER DAY: Later in November, we will be hosting an in-person Community College Career Day, that will include faculty presenters and panelists. This event will be open to all graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. More information, including a list of presenters and an event schedule will be made public shortly.

We hope that you can join us for these important professional development opportunities. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to gradresources at ucmerced.edu<mailto:gradresources at ucmerced.edu>.

Kind Regards,
