<div dir="ltr"><div>No worries about the group reply! That's a good question, Brandon, so I'll answer it for everyone. <br></div><div><br></div><div>If you're a very early career researcher, like a finishing grad. student, it's true that you are less likely to be competitive for a research faculty position. However, it never hurts to practice by applying. One thing that can always be done is to contact the chair of the job search and ask their opinion on minimum requirements. I am guessing that they would expect a publication record usually seen in recent graduates of PhD programs or postdocs. That is to say, at least a few publications in well-respected journals, and preferably with you leading one or more papers. Again, you learn a lot by practicing job applications too. One friend of mine in grad. school was hired as research faculty as a finishing grad. student, but it varies by program. He was hired by an economics dept., which doesn't postdoc as long traditionally, or sometimes not at all.</div><div><br></div><div>But yes, besides actually applying, the best thing you can do is to keep building your publication record.</div><div><br></div><div>Cheers,</div><div><br></div><div>Jay<br></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Wed, Sep 22, 2021 at 11:14 AM Brandon Hendrickson <<a href="mailto:bhendrickson2@ucmerced.edu">bhendrickson2@ucmerced.edu</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex">

<div>Hey Jay,</div>
<div>Is it possible that I could apply to this? </div>
<div>I'll have successfully ran multiple projects from start to finish, and definitely have some papers on their way to publication. I could be a worthy candidate...?</div>
<div>The campus is beautiful and looks like a interesting place to work. </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>What should I do? Focus on getting those papers polished and sent out?</div>
