Dear QSB Faculty and Students,

Welcome back to campus for Fall 2018!

I would like to thank those faculty who have encouraged your students to enroll in QSB 290 this year. The interests of enrolled students reflect the diversity of research topics in QSB.

Please check out the new QSB 290 syllabus and reading list attached and consider coming to meetings on topics of interest to you and your lab. We currently meet noon to 1:20 in CLSSRM 262.

This is the second iteration of the new generation of QSB 290 and it has the new name "Current Topics in Quantitative and Systems Biology: Stochastic State Machines — a Unifying Approach."

My course builds on the contributions of many QSB faculty who contributed time, lectures and expertise to the development of course material in the Fall of 2016. I would particularly like to thank and acknowledge Mike Cleary, Jean-Phillipe Gibert, Justin Yeakel,
Nestor Oviedo, Dan Edwards, Andy Li Wang, Mike Colvin, Carolin Frank, Aaron Hernday and Jennifer Manilay in this regard. This year I decided to forgo guest lectures to simplify the course and its coordination, and increase emphasis on student-led discussion
of literature.

QSB 290 fulfills the systems biology and third-course elective requirements for QSB degrees.

Comments, feedback, questions and further enrollments are all most welcome!

Sincerely,
Dave Ardell
