<p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white">Attached please find a <u>draft</u> of the Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for the 2018 UC National Laboratory Fees Research Program (LFRP). The LFRP sponsors innovative research, fosters new collaborations between
UC faculty and national laboratory scientists, and provides unique training for UC students and postdoctoral fellows. This competition cycle, the LFRP is offering two targeted funding opportunities:

</span></span></span><u></u>The UC Multicampus-National Laboratory Collaborative Research and Training award (UC-NL CRT) requires a minimum of 4 campuses and either LANL or LLNL to collaborate on research in one of three targeted areas. Awards for up to
3 years are available and the lead/submitting PI must be a UC PI. The target<s> </s>

</span></span></span><u></u>An In-Residence UC-NL Graduate Fellowship for UC students advanced to candidacy to conduct dissertation research and obtain training at LANL or LLNL. Fellowship term is a minimum of 2 years with an optional 3<sup>rd</sup> year
extension, and Fellows must spend at least 6 months of each year in-residence at the national lab. Research topics must be approved by the UC graduate advisor, and can be in any area for which the placement at the national laboratory with joint UC-national
lab research oversight is appropriate.<u></u><u></u></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white">Details for both funding opportunities are in the attached RFPs. Please review the FAQs that will be incorporated in the final RFP, or contact us after the final RFP is issued if you have a question regarding the

<p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white">You are welcome to circulate this RFP widely to UC faculty and graduate students who may be interested. By providing this draft in advance of the final RFP, we hope interested faculty and graduate students can begin
to explore collaborations or begin developing proposal ideas. <i>However, all <span style="color:black">
