<div class="">This week's speaker is Dan Kammen. Dan Kammen is the Chair of the Energy and Resources Group and faculty Director of the Center for Environmental Policy in the Goldman School of Public Policy. His research is focused on energy access, climate
and energy justice, and decarbonization of local to global energy systems. He maintains active collaborations on energy and racial justice in the United States, with Native American nations, and overseas on gender, social, and racial justice in East Africa,
in Southeast Asia, and in China.</div>
<div class=""><br class="">
</div>
<div class="">Below is the abstract for his talk:</div>

<div class="">The Confluence of Climate and Social Justice<br class="">
<br class="">
The clean energy technological revolution is well underway, with significant advances in low-carbon technologies, energy storage, energy efficiency, and integrated energy systems design all making impressive advances. Nations worldwide are setting needed and
ambitious targets. Energy access, reliability, and social justice for marginalized, under-served communities, and impacted communities in all nations remains a critical framework to address past injustice, and to build a resilient, sustainable energy system.
Diverse lessons now exist to shape the evolution of a climate-friendly and social-justice framework. Drawing important cases in expanding energy access, power sector modeling, and emerging social justice legislation, we explore and quantify the benefits –
indeed the imperative – to shape energy, infrastructure, and market transformation policies through the joint lenses of climate protection and social justice. Specific household level innovations and opportunities for mini-grids from indigenous communities,
East Africa and southeast Asia on energy access, and utility-scale planning from China, East Africa, south Asia, Central America, and the Balkans are all used to illustrate these opportunities.<br class="">
