We are excited to invite you to a series of Pre-Health Webinars designed to help you explore and advance your path in the healthcare field. These webinars will cover a wide range of topics to help you succeed in your academic and professional journey.

Upcoming Webinar:

  1.  Preparing for the MCAT: Study skills and techniques part 1

Date: Monday, April 7th
Time: 6:00-7:00 pm
Location: In-Person COB 263
Facilitator: Susan DeRiemer, PhD
Description: This is the first of a two-part series that will cover strategies for preparing for the MCAT and will be applicable for students who plan to take the exam this summer or in the future.  While the focus will be on the MCAT, the content will also be applicable to the DAT.  The emphasis in this session will be on developing a study plan, effective use of your pre-health courses, examples of question formats with a discussion of how to approach them with an emphasis on the biology, biochemical, chemistry and physics content.

Date: Thursday, April 10th
Time: 6:00-7:00 pm
Location: In-Person ADMIN 350
Facilitator: Susan DeRiemer, PhD
Description:  This is the second of a This is the first of a two-part series that will cover strategies for preparing for the MCAT and will be applicable for students who plan to take the exam this summer or in the future.  While the focus will be on the MCAT, the content will also be applicable to the DAT.  The emphasis in this session will be on the Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills and the Psychology, Social and Biological Foundations of Behavior sections.  Ways to increase skill for these sections with both courses and independent study will be addressed.

  1.  Medical School Admissions Interview Prep

Date: Monday, April 14th
Time: 6:00-7:00 pm
Location: In-Person COB 263
Facilitator: Susan DeRiemer, PhD
Description: This session will introduce students to the purpose and structure of medical school interviews as well as provide suggestions for ways that students can prepare for a successful interview.  This session is appropriate for students who are applying for medical school this summer.  It will also provide students at earlier stages with information that may help them plan extracurricular activities with the goal of successful interviews.
About the facilitator: Susan DeRiemer, PhD
Dr. Susan DeRiemer is a UCLA graduate who earned her PhD at Yale, followed by a post-doctoral fellowship in Goettingen, Germany. She is an experienced medical educator who has taught undergraduates at Columbia University, followed by medical, dental, and graduate students at Meharry Medical College. She also assisted in launching a new osteopathic medical school in Wichita, Kansas.

 Diagnostic Medical Sonography - A "SOUND" Career choice

Description: Interested in a rewarding healthcare career? Join our webinar to explore the exciting field of sonography! This session will introduce you to the profession, educational paths, and career opportunities.
About the facilitator: Joy Guthrie, PhD., ACS, RDMS, RDCS, RVT.  Joy works clinically as the Advanced Practice Sonographer at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, CA in all imaging modalities.  She is the Program Director of the CRMC Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Advanced Cardiac Sonography Programs. She has taught in CAAHEP accredited programs for over 23 years.  Joy is a past president of SDMS and is actively involved in sonographer led research.
