Clinical Research with EMRAP at the
UC Davis Medical Center (Summer 2018)
The Emergency Medicine Research Associates Program (EMRAP) is recruiting for Summer 2018! This is a great opportunity for those who want experience in both emergency medicine and clinical research! Successful applicants will become research associates at University of California Davis Medical Center's Emergency Room. Research Associates (RAs) identify ER patients who are eligible for certain research studies and perform various tasks to assist the Research Coordinators (RCs) in enrolling them. These tasks include consenting patients, performing patient surveys and evaluations, extracting chart information through electronic medical records and so on.
It is a unique chance for undergraduates to observe and learn emergency department (ED) operations and protocols, as well as interact with physicians, students, nurses, research faculty and staff. Along with clinical research, you can also experience quality improvement initiatives, and be exposed to medical terminology, laboratory tests, and learn signs and symptoms of diseases. The research studies that RAs are involved with vary month to month, but current areas of interest include head trauma, acute coronary syndrome, and upper respiratory infections. Shift times are flexible, and letters of recommendation are given to students who complete excellent work with EMRAP. You will only be required to commit for the summer.
