Denard Davis, a respected community member, is asking me to possibly connect student clubs and orgs with a local bone marrow drive (info below). I thought that maybe our health-oriented students clubs would be particularly interested in getting involved. Do you have a ready list of the clubs and contact information?

An article from www.mercedsunstar.com

The following story was published in the Merced Sun Star today. It is such a moving story, and there is something ALL of us can do. Let's save this young man. I would like to invite of my friends to join me in donating blood on

I do not know the family or Nathaniel, but I do have a grandson his age, and a three year old great grandson whose name is Nathaniel, and I and my family would be devastated with just the thought that either one of them, could be stricken with this deadly disease.

I thought, we can save this kid, if we all came together and contacted our friends, including students at UC Merced, Merced College, church groups, and service clubs throughout the area, and asked them to participate, and spread the word.

Please help the Mariano family and Nathaniel, by forwarding this message to ALL of your contacts and friends, by asking them to get involved, and tweeters, please tweet Nathaniel in order to keep his spirits high.

MERCED, WE CAN DO THIS!!!

Thanx for ALL your efforts, Nathaniel's life depends on it. See you on the 30th.

Family seeks help for Merced boy with bone marrow condition By YESENIA AMARO

Nathaniel Mariano wants to be a famous rapper one day -- but he needs a lot of help from others to make that possible.
The 9-year-old suffers from severe aplastic anemia, a bone marrow disease that prevents him from making his own blood, his mother Eva Cortinas said. Cyclosporine, the only medication to treat his disease, stopped working for him, and he suffered kidney failure.
Now his family is holding a blood and bone marrow drive, asking people to come out and help Nathaniel. "It's extremely important," Cortinas said. "It's to save his life and if they can't donate or are not able to, just pray because I just can't lose my son."
