Hello to all interested pre-med college students (preferably 2nd year and above):

Requested:

A. One summer research student to look at identifying pregnant women at high risk for vitamin D deficiency. This is a collaboration between the endocrinology department at Children's Hospital Central California and the UCSF Fresno OB-Gyn department. The clinical question at hand is "Why is there an increase in maternal vitamin D deficiency (resulting in low calcium) leading to an increase in babies having low calcium levels leading to seizures?" The supervising clinician is Dr. Renee Kinman.

B. One summer research student to work on a diabetes database at Children's Hospital of Central California. The goal of the data will be to tease out the precise autoantibody distribution in our new diabetes population and analyze the presence or absence of 3 antibodies to age, ethnicity, duration of symptomatology and AIC. The supervising clinician is Dr. Swati Banerjee.

This is a non-paid research opportunity. If you are interested please send the following information to Brittany Riojas at briojas at fresno.ucsf.edu:

1. Name and contact information (mailing address, email and phone):

2. Level (year) of college and a copy of your transcripts:

3. Languages you speak other than English:

4. A one half page statement on why you are interested in one of these positions.

5. Rank each of these opportunities as #1 (first choice) or #2 (second choice). If chosen, the faculty will decide which project to place you in.

6. What are your time commitments for this work? How many hours per day (Monday through Friday) ________ and how many weeks are you available during the summer? ____________ The faculty are interested in students who can commit to at least 4 weeks of work to these projects.

Thanks!

Erica
