<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:"Tahoma",sans-serif;color:black">Abstract: </span></b><span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:"Tahoma",sans-serif;color:black">The quality of soil is threatened by urbanization, intensive agricultural
practices, and soil degradation. These problems are closely correlated with the decline in soil organic matter (SOM), particularly in agroecosystems. To address this, it is important to find alternative management practices that ensures that the functions
and services of soils are maintained for the long-term in agriculture. One practice is the use of organic composts in agricultural soils which can lead to improving soil quality through the enhancement of SOM. These organic materials are rich in nutrients
that could be recycled back to the soil and potentially have positive effects to soil conditions and properties. In this presentation, I will discuss the results of my first dissertation chapter which focuses on the effects of two organic composts in almond
orchards, and discuss current research which focuses on long-term effects of biosolids application in rangeland soils.</span><span style="font-size:13.5pt;color:black"><o:p></o:p></span></p>

She received her B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of California, Riverside. Her research interests include: sustainable management practices in agroecosystems, soil quality and health, and carbon sequestration.</span><span style="font-size:13.5pt;color:black"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
