The talk consists of two short talks:

(1) Active dispersal and rolling motility in bacterial aggregates. This talk will present the discovery of a novel locomotor mechanism in microorganisms. This mechanism relies on the division-of-labor
between two cell types and sheds lights on environmental and health sciences, multicellularity evolution and microsystem engineering.

(2) Flight biomechanics and evolution in stick insects. This talk summarizes the latest findings on the mechanism of insect flight evolution, where the stick insects, a group with tremendous wing
size diversity, were used as a model system (see figure). The findings help to understand how insects gained wings and flight.

from Integrative Biology at UC Berkeley, where he worked with Robert Dudley and David Wake. His research interests are deeply rooted in the diversity of living organisms, and his researches incorporate biomechanics to address the evolution of forms and functions.
He had many field trips in SE Asia and still misses those years!
