California experience impacts of drought, different groups may perceive the
problem in different ways. These views may lead individuals to hold different
priorities for water allocation as well as influence support for management
strategies. Understanding how different stakeholders perceive an environmental
problem, such as drought, can help managers better address the concerns and
needs of their constituents. Likewise, earth and environmental scientists can
better communicate research on environmental problems if they understand what
knowledge and information their audience already has about the problem. UC
Merced’s Center for Climate Communication and the Sierra Nevada Research
Institute conducted a survey of California residents with the goal of better
understanding public opinion about the drought. Findings from this project
focused on how residents perceived the drought, how perceptions differed across
the state, and how to improve climate communication with stakeholders.<span></span></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;background-image:initial;background-position:initial;background-size:initial;background-repeat:initial;background-origin:initial;background-clip:initial"><span style="font-size:12pt;color:black"><br></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;line-height:normal;background-image:initial;background-position:initial;background-size:initial;background-repeat:initial;background-origin:initial;background-clip:initial"><span style="font-size:12pt;color:black"><br></span></p></div><div style="font-size:12.8px;margin:0px;line-height:normal"><div><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif" style="font-size:15px"><span style="line-height:14.4pt;text-align:justify">Where: SE2-302</span><br></font></div><div><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:14.4pt"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif" style="font-size:15px">When: Thursday (March 2nd, from <span class="m_8324532593775247824gmail-m_-2890377231026223438gmail-aBn"><span class="m_8324532593775247824gmail-m_-2890377231026223438gmail-aQJ">12-1:30PM</span></span>)</font></p><div><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif" style="font-size:15px"> <br></font></div><div style="text-align:justify;line-height:14.4pt"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif" style="font-size:15px"> <br></font></div><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:14.4pt"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif" style="font-size:15px">We look forward to seeing you,</font></p><div style="text-align:justify;line-height:14.4pt"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif" style="font-size:15px"> <br></font></div><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:14.4pt"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif" style="font-size:15px">Organizers for 2016-17: Rebecca Abney and Fernanda Santos</font></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:14.4pt"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif" style="font-size:15px">Faculty coordinator: Asmeret Asefaw Berhe</font></p></div></div>
