Title: I Don’t Even Know What Questions to Ask...Using Inquiry-Based Instruction to Promote Interest and Self Efficacy in Science,

Abstract: In the digital age, where information is easily obtained online, instructors are being called upon to rethink how to engage students in the process of science. Hands-on or inquiry-based instruction is an effective tool at promoting student interest and self-efficacy in science in both K-12 and undergraduate education. Teaching students how to once again question and wonder needs to be a desired learning objective for every level of science and is fundamental to increasing self-efficacy in science.

About Chelsea Arnold, Ph.D. Chelsea is a former high school science teacher with a background in Biology and Geoscience. She received her Ph.D. in Environmental Systems from UC Merced in 2014 focusing on soil biogeochemistry and environmental soil physics in high elevation meadows and is currently the CalTeach Program Director. She also develops curriculum and coordinates K-12 STEM outreach to local area schools through the CalTeach Learning Laboratory and the Bobcat Summer STEM academy.

We’ll "see" you there!

Regards,
