*Title: *
A RAD Lab & Campus Carbon - Closing the loop and educating our community
*Abstract: *
To expand our understanding of the world we live in and soils that sustain
us, access to analytical infrastructure and applied interdisciplinary
projects are needed to facilitate knowledge discovery and broadly educate
our communities and ourselves. This presentation will focus on the
Regenerative Ag Demonstration Lab (RAD-Lab) at Chico State, it’s broad and
focused goals, and outline the Campus Carbon project. This project is
quantifying soil and vegetation C across campus lands to fill existing GHG
inventory gaps and educate broadly about the ‘campus ecosystem’ and its
role in the C Cycle.

Dr. Liles is an associate professor at California State University Chico
aka Chico State in the College of Agriculture and a Chico native. He has an
interdisciplinary BS in Soil Ecology from Chico State, MS in Soil and
Watershed Science from the University of Washington and a PhD from UC Davis
exploring soil organic matter and the effects of disturbance and management
on forest ecosystems. Garrett has a diverse professional history and
interdisciplinary perspective that supports his passion for teaching,
research, and mentoring. Dr. Liles teaches a variety of soils classes that
focus on Chico as Place while emphasizing the importance of being curious,
critical, and creative.
Dr Liles is the director of the Regenerative Ag Demonstration lab (RAD Lab)
within the Center for Regenerative Agriculture and Resilient Systems. The
RAD Lab provides soil assessment, as a service for campus researchers and
stakeholders, while providing an environment for student learning and
workforce development. The RAD Lab supports a variety of research focused
on soil health, C accounting, and the role of regenerative ag in supporting
soil function and positive ecosystem services across agricultural, range,
and forest ecosystems in Northern California.
