Hello Everyone,
Today we have practice talks for upcoming conferences from Jing and Sam, postdoc and PhD student in Prof. Ghezzehei's lab. Please join us and support our colleagues in their presentations!

When & where: Today 12pm SE2 - 302

Short synopses of talks below:

Samuel Araya:
We test the capability of several machine learning algorithms to interpret soil moisture variability from multispectral imagery captured by a low-altitude fixed-wing UAV. We predict soil moisture across a rangeland with high topographic and vegetation heterogeneity. We show that machine learning can interpret soil moisture from multispectral UAV images and produce high-resolution soil moisture maps for a natural rangeland environment.

Jing Yan:
We aim to test the possibility of utilizing the plasticity of rhizosphere hydraulic properties, i.e. hydraulic redistribution, to facilitate the nutrient movement and uptake from resource segregated zone. Preliminary results show that plants are able to extract nutrients from spatially separated regions when sufficient amounts of water are given elsewhere. Our findings provide the basics and demonstrate the possibility to develop novel and sustainable agricultural practices to mitigate nutrient leaching and loss.

There will be coffee.
Thanks!
Nate
