*Title:*

Modelling the impacts of climate change on the forests of the Sierra Nevada.


*Abstract:*

To better predict the impacts of climate change on forests, we need
appropriate tools. I will present a model of forest dynamics based on
the individual-based
forest simulator SORTIE-ND and adapted for the mixed forest of the Sierra
Nevada. This model takes into account different species as well as climate
variables and their effects on the different processes of forest dynamics
(tree growth, mortality and recruitment). This kind of model, paired with
climate predictions for the next century, can give us indications of how
the forest might react to climate change and how to prepare for these
changes.


*Short Bio:*

I studied bioinformatics and modelling at the Institut National des
Sciences Appliquées in Lyon (France), and got my Master in complex system
modelling in the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Lyon (France). I got my PhD in
the University of French West Indies and French Guiana in Kourou (French
Guiana), about modelling the impacts of climate change on the dynamics of
the tropical forest.

I am interested in using mathematical and computing tools to model
ecological processes. I am focusing on forests, with individual-based
models, where each tree is modeled separately. Here in Merced, I'm using
the model SORTIE-ND to build a simulator for the forests of the Sierra
Nevada.
