 Disentangling proximate and evolutionary mechanisms

of sexual size dimorphism

Sexual size dimorphism is one of the most ubiquitous forms of dimorphism
found in nature and has profound implications for the ecology of the
species in which it is found. Using an innovative integrative approach, my
research focuses on understanding how and why do extreme phenotypic
differences evolve between females and males, and what is the role played
by environmental factors, such as temperature, in the expression of such
dimorphism. I will discuss how we can combine methods and approaches from
multiple areas of ecology and evolution to disentangle proximate and
evolutionary drivers of sexual dimorphism, presenting results from my
research on crab spiders, as well as my current projects on the
size-blotched lizard.
