Hi Rebecca and Fernanda,

Thank you for inviting me to present at EnviroLunch! I’ve compiled a list
of resources and helpful links below. Could you please forward this to last
week’s attendees or the EnviroLunch community?

Kind regards,

Michelle

*Science Communication Resources & Inspiration*

· http://sharingscience.agu.org - tools, tips,events, Q&A, and
community for sharing earth systems science with lots of audiences
(schools, media, policymakers, twitter, etc.)

·         http://www.compassonline.org/ - science communication trainings;
consider requesting a group training

· http://TED.com - videos of presentations for non-specialized
audiences; consider some playlists from the science and medicine category,
for instance

*Plain Language Resources & Inspiration*

· http://www.plainlanguage.gov/howto/wordsuggestions/simplewords.cfm
- word swap-out recommendations

· https://readable.io/ - paste in some text or a URL and learn how
easy or difficult your text is to read

· https://xkcd.com/1133/ - (AGU has a session each year based on
this!) Up Goer Five, a diagram of the NASA Saturn V rocket using the 1000
(ten hundred) most used English words

· http://splasho.com/upgoer5/ - (helpful for submitting for that
AGU session!) if you’re feeling inspired, use this text editor to write an
explanation of your research with only the ten hundred most used words

*Slide, Graph, Video Design Resources & Inspiration*

· http://desktop.arcgis.com/en/arcmap/latest/map/animation/
about-building-animations-in-arcgis.htm - creating animations/videos in
ArcGIS

· http://paletton.com– a color scheme coordination tool

· http://www.slideshare.net/ - a virtual library of presentations,
infographics, etc.; keep in mind that 1) anyone can upload so quality is
not controlled, and 2) some presentations are designed for an oral
presenter while others are designed to be stand-alone without voiceover

· http://www.slideshare.net/CrispyPresentations/five-
killer-ways-to-design-the-same-slide - examples of different slide designs
presenting the same information

· Infographic, flyer, and video-making sites to look up, maybe even
just for inspiration: piktochart, infogram, animaker
