Dear all,

Please support our community in Earth and environmental sciences by
attending our weekly events. This week's speaker in our Enviro-lunch brown
bag seminar series will be:

*Dr. Jean Philippe Gibert*

(Yeakel Lab)

*The consequences of phenotypic variation for predator-prey systems*

Recent evidence suggests that the traits individuals have and their
naturally occurring variation within populations can affect the way species
interact. However, *how* this variation affects interactions, *when* it is
important to take it into account, and how these effects *scale up* from
pairwise interactions to entire networks of interacting species, such as
food webs, is poorly understood. My work tackles these issues from a
theoretical perspective, addressing how variation in traits predators can
per se affect predator-prey dynamics, how these effects are mediated by
environmental factors such as temperature, and how trait variation
determines food web structure and dynamics. My results have implications
for trait-based species conservation and help hone our understanding of how
complex ecological systems might respond to increasing global temperatures.

Where: SE2-302

When: Thursday (April 6th, from 12-1:30PM)

We look forward to seeing you,
