“Agrivoltaics – Sustainable Co-Production of Food and Energy”
Abstract: By the end of this century, the global population is projected to exceed 9 billion people. Meeting the food and energy demands of this growing population under adverse climate conditions will require sustainable solutions, especially given the limited availability of land. Agrivoltaics, the practice of co-producing food and energy by installing photovoltaics on agricultural farmland, offers one such solution.
Varsha’s work focuses on developing intuition through extensive data collection and analysis, followed by AI predictive modeling and mathematical modeling & optimization. This framework aims to optimize the design and operation of Agrivoltaic systems.
Bio: Varsha grew up in Delhi, India, and earned her B.E. in Polymer Science and Chemical Technology from Delhi College of Engineering. Following this, she gained five years of experience in the chemical process industry. Later, she completed her M.S. in Chemical Engineering at Purdue University. Currently, she is pursuing a Ph.D. at Purdue under the guidance of Dr. Rakesh Agrawal and Dr. Margaret Gitau. She has a strong interest in mathematical modeling, research, and teaching.
